It is not very obvious in first glance (or second, or third) which products are safe and which aren't so I phoned up few companies and asked. I checked the following companies:
- Estee Lauder
- Clarins
- Elemis
I only chose these 3 as I tend to use many of their products on a daily basis. All three said their products are safe to use but eventually I decided to go with Clarins as they state clearly on their website that their products are safe and so I had no worries that I may have got the wrong information. Have a look at their website for their Pregnancy Guide.
Luckily for me, my friends, unbeknown to them at that point that I was pregnant, gave me few Clarins products for my birthday, problem solved.

Cleanser - Clarins Daily Energizer Cleansing Gel
I love this cleanser, it leaves my skin feeling soft and refreshed not to mention clean. I used it mainly in the morning but after a night out also at night as it cleans make up very well.
Day Cream - Clarins Daily Energizer Cream
Light cream, which I enjoyed as well. I don't have much to say about this product. I enjoyed the product, had no breakouts but at the same time I cannot say that I would highly recommend it. Don't get me wrong, I would recommend it but I wouldn't say its amazing (unlike the Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream which I swear by). The Clarins cream does what it says on the tin, I felt safe using it and I had no problems with it.
I did not use a night cream. If my skin felt really dry I used Neutrogena Deep Moisture Cream.
Stretch Marks Prevention
For stretch marks preventions I used 2 products:
- Clarins Huile "Tonic"Body Treatment oil
- Palmer's Cocoa Butter Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks
I used to alternate them so each day I used a different brand.
The Clarins should be used on damp skin, after a shower. Palmer's can be rubbed on anytime.
I don't know if these products actually worked or perhaps I am extremely lucky, but I had no stretch marks until the last week and even then, they were on my bum rather than my belly (and let's be honest, I mainly rubbed these on my belly - you should rub it on your belly, hips and bum).
So I would recommend these and will use them again in the next pregnancy.
I still use them now by the way.
Many women swear by bio-oil but I have never tried it so cannot comment on how the Clarins Oil compares to it. Many women swear by the Clarins oil too so its up to you... Leave me a comment below if you've used both and think one is better than the other.
Vitamins
Before I fell pregnant I took Folic Acid for quite some time. The advise is to start consuming it at least 3 months before you plan to conceive. I used Holland and Barrett. I picked it for no other reason than passing the shop by my work place; I went to have a look at the sale and came home with Folic Acid :)
Once I fell pregnant I started taking the Vitabiotics' Pregnacare Original tablets. I took them religiously everyday with my dinner. I also continued to take them post-partum for about 2 months. Once I finished the pack I stopped. I know there is a version for Post-partum but I only saw it a few days ago and I feel my diet is varied enough to ensure my baby gets all the vitamins she needs.
These are the products that I used on a daily basis. I tried not to overdo it and simply pay attention to what I did to my body.
